BEHIND THE SCENES: MY APPROACH TO MEAL PLANNING
Grocery store craziness during a pandemic!
The last time I went to the grocery store I asked random ‘grocery shoppers’ (the ones I thought weren’t going to want to smack me upside my head with their grocery bags—-cuz we all know the patience people have right now ) a couple questions about the chaos that was taking place and how it was affecting their overall h and wellness.. They answered below….
ME: When was the last time you went to the grocery store?! Was it better than it was just after it was announced… The same… Or worse? Was there anything in particular you noticed?
RANDOM SHOPPER: “When I went to the grocery store yesterday, there actually was toilet paper and I didn’t see anyone fighting or arguing over who got the last TP! But for some reason the meat counters still were empty.”
Here’s my take on it: “For the most part, most of the foods in my store that were in short supply actually were processed foods! They were stocking up the shelves every day with canned, boxed, and bagged foods aka ‘processed foods’.. But, are unable to keep up with the demand … so by the end of the day shelves were completely emptied. Along with pre-made meals in the freezer section like, frozen pizzas , hungry man meals , hot pockets , etc.
…. On the other hand…There were still plenty of healthy options in the freezer case and produce sections . Which is super good news for those of us who eat a clean, whole foods diet.” — So I was sure to get my share …
When it comes to planning and prepping your meals, it’s sort of like taking a trip back to the old days, when our grandmothers/great-grandmothers had to plan their meals based on…what was available!
This might mean you have to be a little more flexible when it comes to your ingredients when doing your meal planning. When in doubt, use this simple equation that Carolina and I use, because it won’t steer you wrong: protein + veggie + healthy fat = a balanced meal!
