DYK...That Excess Belly Fat Doubles the Risk Of Early Death?
π¨Did you know that people with excess belly fat have double the risk of early death?π
A recent study by the New England Journal Of Medicine says…
"Our study shows that accumulating excess fat around your mid section can put your health at risk even if your weight is normal," he says. "There aren't many simple individual characteristics that can increase a person's risk of premature death to this extent, independent of smoking and drinking."
This includes that beer belly in men and weight around the hips and butt in woman.
Here’s what they found specifically:
• Men and women with the largest waists (more than 40 inches for men and 35
inches for women) had roughly double the risk of premature death as men and
women with the smaller waists (less than 34 inches for men and 28 for women).
• Each 2-inch increase in waist circumference was associated with close to a 17%
increase in mortality in men and a 13% increase in women.
• Waist-to-hip ratio also strongly predicted mortality.
WOW! Those are some seriously scary statistics! What can you do to prevent this from happening to you?
1. Exercise Regularly – Studies show that people with a sedentary lifestyle have
an increased risk of sudden death by nearly 80% over those who exercise for
30-60min per day.
2. Sound Nutrition – A diet rich in fruits, veggies, lean meats, and healthy fats is
key. Also cutting our sugar and processed food.
3. Sleep – Getting 7+ hours of sleep a day reduces cortisol production which has
been linked to low testosterone in man and excess fat storage in women.
4. Get Support – Studies show that those who joined a group program like Weight
Watchers or joined a gym with a friend were 65% more likely to stick to their
program.
