HERE’S TO TAKING THAT FIRST STEP. . . .

One of my favorite quotes:

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

~Lao-tzu

Do you have a goal that you want to pursue? Are you finding it difficult to take that first step toward making this goal a reality? What’s holding you back?

What has stopped you from taking those first steps to success?

Here are a few that have affected me at one time or another in the past:

1. Feeling Overwhelmed. Read the Lao Tzu quote again: ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.’

- No matter how large or how small the endeavor, you still have to begin with a single action. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Simply take the first step.

2. Fear of ___________. (Fill in the blank.) It could be any number of things.

- Failure. Humiliation. Loss.

- Odds are the fear that you’re experiencing is far worse than the actual reality, if whatever you’re afraid of did happen. 99% of the time, the fear that’s holding you back is not that big of a deal. The potential discomfort you’d experience is nothing compared to the elation you’d experience from actually achieving your goal.

3. Unwilling to Leave The Comfort Zone. This is just a nicer way of saying you’re being too lazy to reach your goals.

- You must accept that achieving anything of significance requires work and dedication. So logout of Facebook, quit texting and hop off the couch and make your dreams happen.

4. Comparing Yourself with Others. Your objectives should simply be tied to reaching your own potential.

- Don’t worry about other people and what they’ve done unless it fuels you to work harder and do more. Otherwise focus on being the best version of you.

5. Thinking Things Had to Be Perfect. Waiting until the situation is perfect is a direct route to inaction because the situation will never be perfect.

- No matter how well prepared you are, there will always be something unexpected that pops up, so don’t let the need for perfection stand in your way.

6. Doing More Research . This is just another way of saying ‘you’re too lazy to do the real work.’

- As I just mentioned, things don’t have to be perfect to get started, so the need for endless research before taking action is completely unfounded.

7. Not Feeling ‘Worthy’ Enough . Not believing that you had enough education, knowledge, skill or experience can stop you before you get started, but the truth is that you can get experience without ‘doing’ and you can’t develop your skill without practice.

- Most every ‘expert’ I know felt this way at one point or another and still proceeded to take action. So should you.

**If you’re like me, the seven things that I listed above have at one time or another stood between inaction and action. But they’re all just small obstacles designed to separate the haves from the have-nots. The successful from the average. The real bottom line is this: no matter what your goal is, the best time to start is now.

I learned this when I made the decision to leave New Jersey to come to SoFlo, and once I learned this I dipped out of NJ 36 hours later. Everyone thought I was out of my mind, and to be honest....I probably was. But I did it any way because I was certain that my DESTINY was there.

There is no better time than NOW!

Ø Fast forward a few years, when Carolina and I decided to do our own thing and open shop I felt a version of all seven things I listed previously:

1. Becoming a business owner was overwhelming.

2. I was afraid of failure and humiliation. But my older bro Glenn said a few simple words to me that made a whole lot of sense , 'What's the worst that happens, It doesn't work out and you have to start over.' I was convinced, but still scared shitless.

3. I looked at all the surround gyms we would be competing against and it seemed to me that they had it down and we had our work cut out for us, but I knew they didn't have the drive that this North East boy had.

4. I knew that the circumstances were not ideal , especially because America was literally in the middle of going through the ‘Great Recession’. But I said to Carolina, “F*ck it! If we are gonna do it then THE TIME IS NOW!”

5. It crept into Carolina’s head…. Maybe we need to do more research and be sure of what we are getting into.

6. Especially because all I had was a BS in Exercise Physiology and a BS in Teaching Education , but not one business class with it. Maybe for a second I also thought we were not ready for this yet . I just had this feeling that if we didn’t do it then when will we do it? We had started from scratch, no loan whatsoever, and nothing but our minimal amount of savings we had.

7. Most 28 year olds were content with being employed and not having the responsibility of running his/her own business . Why should I be any different and take on the responsibility? (Cuz that difference is what separates us from them)

But ultimately I accepted the premise above : the best time to start is now .

And WE learned as I went.

WE new nothing about running a business, but I accepted CHALLENGE!

None of this would have happened unless I took the first step in spite of my insecurities.

And what WE learned through that experience has benefited me time and time again.

No matter what your goal, success is a process and it requires overcoming limiting beliefs and taking action.

Maybe your goal is to finally start your business.

Perhaps it’s to drop 25 pounds, become a brick shit-house', get ridiculously athletic and start competing.

Maybe your goals are to get to $500,000 in business revenue or $100,000 in personal income.

It really doesn’t matter whether you want to start a business or grow one. Whether you want to train for your first Crossfit competition or build a half-million dollar a year business.

Actually, I’d encourage you to dream big and set lofty goals for yourself. That’s part of what makes life worth living.

But you must understand, the key isn’t so much what the goal is, but how you act on it.

Once you’ve set your goal, big or small, you will do much, much better if you spend more time thinking about your ‘first steps’ than just the big picture dreams and goals that you’ve laid out.

Set the end goal and the set a bunch of small goals to get the momentum you need to succeed .

To get to your big dreams there are a lot of steps in between.

And many of those steps might not be as exciting or as fun to think about as the big endpoint you’ve identified as your ideal destination. But often it’s important to focus on the very next steps that you need to take in order to move towards your goals.

This is how you generate momentum.

By putting one foot in front of the other .

Success isn’t a big leap.

It’s the combination of hundreds or even thousands of little steps in succession.

But most people don’t recognize that, so they look for the magic bullet.

The quick fix.

And while this isn’t good news if you’re looking for immediate gratification, it’s great news if you’re willing to start stepping.

Because you understand that the magic is in the process and the process begins with that first step.

And don’t think that you’re stuck taking what you may feel are baby steps for long. Once you’ve achieved these first small goals, start to increase them.

Before you know it, you’ve put a series of steps together and you’re well on your way to achieving your big goal.

But before you can run, you need to walk. And before you can walk, you need to crawl.

- (*as said by yours truly K.Kohan)

So to quote Dr. Denis Waitley – “There never was a winner who was not first a beginner.”

The most important thing you can do to make your goals a reality is that first step.

🚨 [SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS] BMI rate in kids is skyrocketing right now and here's why. According to a new CDC report, kids’ BMI has been increasing at nearly DOUBLE the rate than it did before the pandemic began. BMI (body mass index) is a measure of weight to height that’s an “easy screening method for weight category: underweight, healthy weight, overweight, and obesity.” Alarmingly, the increase was especially high in preschool and school-aged children. This is DEFINITELY something we all need to be paying attention to. There were 432,302 kids aged 2 to 19 years old in the study. They found the rate of BMI increase jumped from 0.052 (pre-pandemic) to 0.100 kg/m 2 /month during the pandemic. In more understandable terms, in August 2019, the obesity rate in the group was 19.3% (already high) … and it reached 22.4% in August 2020 and close to 25% in August 2021. We already knew that kids were gaining weight during the pandemic because of all of the changes in their daily habits …But this study shows how significant this negative impact was in just A FEW SHORT YEARS. Here’s another key finding: The CDC found that children who were already obese gained about 1 to 1.2 pounds a month, putting them on track to gain 6.1 to 7.3 pounds in 6 months. This group is gaining weight at a faster rate compared to the 2.7 pounds in those with a healthy weight. Straight from the study: “Accelerated weight gain, especially among children, can cause long-lasting metabolic changes that put children at risk for serious and costly co-occurring conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and depression.” The US already has a high level of obesity among kids, affecting more than one in six children. This is serious stuff, folks! We need to be paying attention and making sure our kids are staying ACTIVE and putting HEALTHY FOOD into their bodies.
