Strength Training Will NOT Bulk You Up... But This Will...
🔷Bulking up is a function of
surplus calories - not a side effect of strength training. That’s right ladies you heard correctly, it
is not physiologically possible for you to get big like a dude, mainly due to
the fact that you do not produce testosterone like men do. However, something else just might if you
don’t watch it.
So many people are worried about adding in strength training and getting too bulky. But those fears have nothing to do with strength training and everything to do with your diet.
You can not get bigger unless you eat in a caloric surplus. Strength training is just a stimulus. It’s the food that drives growth or loss of body mass.
Here are the 3 main potential results you could experience when you add strength training…
✅ Strength training + caloric surplus = your weight increases and you grow in size
✅ Strength training + maintenance calories = your weight remains the same but you get smaller due to the higher pound for pound density of muscle as compared to fat
✅ Strength training + caloric deficit = your weight decreases and you get smaller in size
As you can see, strength training is the one constant in all the above scenarios. So the thing that affects your size and overall body mass is how much food you’re eating.
But even though strength training can change the shape of your body, that’s not the main reason we do it.
The benefits go beyond appearance…
✅ Improved metabolic rate
✅ Improved confidence
✅ Improved strength
✅ Stronger bones
✅ Additional enjoyment
✅ Improved quality of life
✅ Improved health
…and so much more.
So work on getting over your fear of bulking up and don’t make the mistake of associating strength training solely with appearance.
